Richelle here with an update on the happenings of the SEACR Lab! As you may have guessed, we are impacted in many ways by the new federal administration but we are unsurprised and ready to get creative about continuing our research and community support. As we wrap up our work (for now) in the California Delta, articles from those projects have begun to come out here and here, but there are many more to come so stay tuned :) We have also started a new collab with UW Friday Harbor Labs and CSU Long Beach, from which you will see a LOT more eelgrass sea hare content. Thanks to USC Sea Grant for supporting that pilot project, most importantly the salaries of our student researchers. We are continuing our work with professional societies supported by the NSF BIO-LEAPS, tackling field-wide cultural competency as we reform our scientific community to support the needs of diverse folks throughout career stages, no matter their home institution. Beyond these big initiatives, there are more student projects than we can count - from ECOSTRESS satellite applications for intertidal algae distribution, to public trust in state beach officials, and many more things that are currently under wraps - we are very busy! As we settle in for a few years of lean funding, we are doing everything we can to give back to our community partners through the development, evaluation, and implementation of participatory science programs, advocacy events, and much more - hope to see you on the beach soon!
